Currently moving slowly over the Four Corners, Winter Storm Xylia is shaping up to become a potentially crippling and historic snowstorm, expected to bring heavy snow to parts of the central Rockies and central High Plains Friday through Sunday. Strong winds will combine with snowfall rates of 1-2”/hr to produce near blizzard conditions. Southeast of the winter weather, severe thunderstorms are possible over the southern Plains into the Ozarks Friday through Sunday. Widespread transit impacts are expected, with stretches of Interstates 25, 70, 76 and 80 in the High Plains and Front Range likely to become impassable and may be closed this weekend.
