Weather Update 3.11.21 - U.S.

Taking shape as a potentially historic weather event, Winter Storm Xylia will shift across the Southwest through Friday and strengthen into a potential major winter storm through the weekend for parts of the central Rockies, with impacts expected  in several cities including Cheyenne, Wyoming; Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins, Colorado.  Roads – including stretches of Interstates 25, 70 and 80 – in the High Plains and Front Range are likely to become impassable and may be closed this weekend. Southeast of this storm, severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are possible over the southern Plains into the Ozarks Friday through Sunday. Active Advisories: California, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska Minnesota, Wisconsin

  • 4-8 inches of snow
  • 20-35mph sustained winds
  • 50mph wind gusts
  • Until 10 PM PST this evening
Impacting I-5 including through Tejon pass

Snow continuing this morning across southwest NV
  • 1-3 inches of additional snow
  • Until 10 AM PST this morning
Wyoming
Winter Storm Watch
Blizzard conditions possible across southeast WY beginning this evening
  • 18-32 inches of snow
  • 45mph wind gusts
  • From Thursday evening through late Sunday night
Will likely impact transit along I-80 and I-25
 
Colorado
Winter Storm Watch
Heavy snow possible beginning Friday afternoon across northeast CO
  • 24-48 inches of snow
  • 35mph wind gusts
  • From Friday afternoon through late Sunday night
Nebraska
Winter Storm Watch
Blizzard conditions possible beginning this evening across the panhandle
  • 15-25 inches of snow
  • 45mph wind gusts
  • From late Thursday night through late Sunday night
Will likely impact transit along I-80
 
Minnesota
Winter Storm Warning
Heavy snow continuing this morning across northeast MN
  • 2 inches additional snow
  • 35mph wind gusts
  • Until 9 AM CST this morning
Wisconsin
Winter Weather Advisory
Snow continuing this morning across northern WI
  • 1 inch additional snow
  • 35mph wind gusts
  • Until 9 AM CST this morning
 
Additionally, High Wind Advisories are in effect for parts of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan
