U.S. Weather Update 2.8.24

Summary:
Heavy snow is expected across the Intermountain West and Rockies today. A wet pattern will continue heavy rain and the threat for flash flooding across Puerto Rico and the U.S Virgin Islands today. Unsettled weather will continue over American Samoa throughout the next several days. Heavy rain and potential flash flooding is possible through the remainder of the week. Impacted Lanes: I-15, I-40, I-10, I-17, I-76, I-25, I-80, I-90, I-94, I-29, I-35


Arizona
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST this evening

  • Heavy snow above 5000 feet. Additional snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches above 5000 feet and 8 to 16 inches expected above 6500 feet. Localized higher amounts of more than 20 inches will be possible at higher elevations. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM MST this afternoon

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 PM MST this evening

  • Snow expected above 5000 feet. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 8 AM MST Monday morning

  • Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

Wyoming
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to 3 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to 3 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

New Jersey
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM EST this afternoon

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads along tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.

North Dakota
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM CST today

  • Light freezing rain, freezing drizzle, and areas of dense fog. Ice accumulations ranging from a light glaze to as high as one tenth of an inch and visibility down to 1/4 mile.
  • Impacts: Hazardous travel due to slippery road conditions and low visibility.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
