U.S. Weather Update 2.7.24

Summary:
A storm system will push into the Southwest, bringing heavy rain and a flooding threat today. Heavy snow will spread into the Intermountain West and Rockies. High snowfall rates and strong winds could lead to difficult travel conditions. A wet pattern will continue heavy rain and the threat for flash flooding across Puerto Rico and the U.S Virgin Islands through Thursday. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-80, I-15, I-40, I-17, I-25, I-70, I-86, I-84, I-90, I-94, I-29, I-35


Montana
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM MST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 AM MST Friday morning

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult with icy road conditions.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST Thursday evening 

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 10 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning and evening commutes.

Texas
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 2 AM CST Thursday morning

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, are expected
  • Impacts: High winds may cause travel to be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM CST this evening

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Virginia
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 AM EST this morning

  • Around two feet of inundation above ground level in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas will result in an elevated threat of property damage to homes and businesses near the waterfront and shoreline. Water will be up to 2 feet above ground level in some areas resulting in a sufficient depth to close numerous roads and threaten homes and businesses. Flooding will extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays resulting in some road closures and flooding of vehicles.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EST this morning

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

California
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 8 AM PST this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 11 PM PST this evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

Coastal Flood Advisory  remains in effect until 10 AM PST Saturday morning

  • Minor coastal flooding.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM PST this evening

  • Sustained west winds 20 to 30 mph, with gusts near 45 mph. 
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult, particularly for high profile vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 AM PST Thursday morning

  • Moderate snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches, highest for elevations above 5000 feet.
  • Impacts: Periods of snow and low visibilities will make for dangerous driving conditions and could lead to road closures and travel delays.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12 PM PST Thursday 

  • Heavy wet snow. Additional snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches with 10 to 14 inches on the highest peaks. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph tonight and early Thursday.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage.
