U.S. Weather Update 2.27.24

Summary:
A strong winter storm will continue to progress across the Great Basin and Rockies bringing heavy mountain snow, high winds, and near blizzard conditions that will cause dangerous travel conditions. Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are possible late Tuesday through the night from parts of the mid-Mississippi Valley to the Ohio Valley and southern Lower Michigan. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-90, I-15, I-40, I-25, I-10, I-70, I-80, I-94, I-29, I-20, I-30, I-35, I-45, I-44, I-49, I-55, I-65, I-22, I-85, I-24


North Dakota
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM MST this morning

  • Blowing snow reducing visibilities. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph.
  • Impacts: Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Tuesday morning commute.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on difficult travel. Blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commute.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • North winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Patchy blowing snow could reduce visibility to less than 1 mile. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Texas
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 PM MST this evening

  • West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles like campers, vans, and tractor trailers. Blowing dust can reduce visibility suddenly to zero, especially in areas where bare fields exist. Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM CST this evening

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Connecticut
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM EST Thursday morning

  • Southwest winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Additional Dense Fog Advisories include but are not limited to: New York
