U.S. Weather Update 2.27.23

Summary:
Widespread damaging winds gusting potentially to 80-110 mph will move through portions of the southern Plains overnight including parts of Oklahoma. Embedded tornadoes are also possible, a couple of which may be strong, especially over southwest Oklahoma. A series of winter storm systems will continue moving across the Pacific Northwest and into California through Wednesday. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-84, I-80, I-15, I-86, I-94, I-70, I-90, I-39, I-41, I-43, I-74, I-65, I-69, I-71, I-271, I-77, I-376, I-76, I-79, I-64


Pennsylvania 
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 AM EST Tuesday morning

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact this evenings commute.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST Tuesday afternoon

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact this evenings commute and also the Tuesday morning commute.

South Carolina
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Tennessee
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11:59 PM EST this evening

  • Southwest winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected. Locally higher gusts are possible in the highest mountain peaks.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

California
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 4 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Heavy snow and strong winds expected. Blizzard conditions later this morning through Tuesday night. Total snow accumulations 1 to 2 feet lower elevations with 4 to 7 feet higher elevations. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be extremely dangerous to impossible with extended road closures likely. Blowing snow will cause white-out conditions at times. Downed trees and tree limbs with power outages are possible due to heavy snow and gusty winds.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Gusty winds and snow could bring down tree branches leading to power outages.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST Tuesday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 5 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Gusty winds and snow could bring down tree branches. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM PST this afternoon

  • South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Additional Dense Fog Advisories include but are not limited to: North Carolina, Florida, South Dakota and North Dakota 

Additional Wind Advisories include but are not limited to: Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada

Additional High Wind Warnings include but are not limited to: Wyoming and Colorado
