Summary: Winter Storm Bringing Ice to the Central U.S. Shifting to the Mid-Atlantic; Heavy Snow Expected for the Northeast. A significant winter storm will bring snow and ice from the southern Plains to the Ohio Valley through Thursday night, with heavy snow for the Northeast U.S. Thursday night through Friday. Freezing rain and sleet ongoing from north Texas through the Mid-Mississippi Valley will shift to the eastern Ohio Valley through the central Appalachians. 

Major interstates in the potential impact zone include but are not limited to I-35, I-40, I-44, I-55, I-57, I-70, I-75, I-76, I-80, I-81, I-90 and I-95. Impacts will include a variety of issues ranging from reduced speeds to major slowdowns and long-term road closures.

 
Major Lanes of Concern:
• Interstate 35 from Dallas to Oklahoma City.
• Interstate 40 from Oklahoma City to Little Rock, Arkansas.
• Interstate 44 from Wichita Falls, Texas, to St. Louis.
• Interstate 64 from St. Louis to Evansville, Indiana.
• Interstate 70 from St. Louis to Hagerstown, Maryland.
• Interstate 80 from Toledo, Ohio, to Teaneck, New Jersey.
• Interstate 95 from Philadelphia to the Maine-Canada border.

California
Freeze Warning
Freeze Warning remains in effect. Can expect low temperatures below freezing


Colorado
Winter Storm Warning / Wind Chill Warning
Winter Storm and Wind Chill Warnings remain in effect until 11 AM MST this morning. Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
  • Where: Winter Storm Warning (West), Wind Chill Warning (East)
  • Snow showers. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches
  • Winds gusting as high as 40 mph
  • Wind chills as low as 30 to 40 below zero
 
New Mexico
Winter Weather Advisory / Wind Advisory
Central New Mexico is under a winter weather advisory until 7 AM MST this morning. Snow and blowing snow is expected. Plan on snow packed or icy road conditions.
  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
  • Impacts: This includes portions of I-40 and I-25
     
Oklahoma
Winter Storm Warning/ Wind Chill Advisory / Winter Weather Advisory
Both Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory remain in effect until 6 PM CST this evening following Wind Chill Advisory in effect until 11 AM. Plan on slippery road conditions.
  • Winter Storm Warning: Freezing rain with some sleet at times. Additional ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths inches. Additional sleet accumulations of up to one tenth inch.
  • Winter Chill Advisory: Portions of the Panhandle of Oklahoma. Wind chills as low as 15 below zero
  • Winter Weather Advisory: Freezing drizzle, snow, and sleet. Additional snow
    accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch.
  • Impacts: Ice possible along I-44
 
Texas
Winter Weather Advisory / Winter Storm Warning / Wind Chill Advisory / High Wind Warning
Winter Weather Advisory and High Wind Warning are in effect until early afternoon CST. Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST.  A wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain expected. Hazardous road conditions especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses.
  • Winter Weather Advisory:  Ice accumulations from a light glaze to one or two tenths of an inch
  • Winter Storm warning:  Freezing rain with some sleet at times. Additional ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths and additional sleet accumulations of up to one tenth inch. Ice on roads and bridges will make travel dangerous.
  • Wind Chill Advisory: Portions of the Panhandle of Texas. Wind Chills as low as 15 below zero. Effective until 11 AM CST this morning 
  • High Wind Warning: West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Where: Guadalupe and Delaware Mountains
 
Iowa
Winter Weather Advisory
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from noon today to midnight tonight.Plan on slippery road conditions.
  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Higher amounts up to 4 inches possible
  • The hazardous conditions will likely impact the Thursday evening travel
 
Missouri
Winter Storm Warning / Winter Weather Advisory / Flood Warning
Winter Storm Warning Remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening with the Winter Weather Advisory follow in effect until midnight tonight. Moderate to heavy mixed precipitation expected. Bridges and overpasses will likely become slick and hazardous. 
  • Winter Storm Warning: Significant icing. Total ice accumulations of up to one inch. Mixed precipitation expected. Additional snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch.
  • Winter Weather Advisory: Mixed precipitation. Additional snow accumulations up to
    two inches, sleet accumulations around one quarter of an inch, and
    ice accumulations around a light glaze.
  • Flood Warning: Flood Warning continues into this weekend. Heavy rainfall will continue and cause rivers to rises through the weekend. Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
 
Arkansas
Winter Storm Warning / Winter Weather Advisory / Flood Warning
Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory remain in effect until 6 PM CST this evening. Significant icing expected making travel nearly impossible. The highest ice accumulations will be along a line from Hot Springs, to Searcy and Newport.
  • Additional ice accumulations between one-quarter and one-half inch
  • Additional sleet and snow accumulations up to half an inch
  • Impacts: Ice amounts around a tenth of inch will be possible along I-44
  • Flood Warning Remains in effect until further notice. Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast in low altitude areas and rivers.
 
Indiana
Flood Warning / Winter Weather Advisory
Rises on area rivers occurred as a result of recent rainfall paired with maximized runoff from frozen ground and snow melt. Flood Warning is in effect now running through the weekend. Winter Weather Advisory in effect until mid morning. Hazardous road conditions could impact travel.
  • Flood Warning: Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
  • Winter Weather Advisory: Mixed precipitation expected. Additional ice accumulations of less than one tenth of an inch are expected through the morning commute today. Little, or no additional sleet accumulations are expected this morning.
 
Kentucky
Flood Warning / Winter Storm Warning
Heavy rain from the past few days and additional rain over the next 24 hours will cause the river to rise. Flood Warning in effect from late tonight until further notice. Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening. Due to ice accumulations, travel could be hazardous.
  • Winter Storm Warning: Moderate to locally heavy mixed precipitation expected. Additional ice accumulations from one tenth to one quarter of an inch. Little, if any additional sleet accumulation expected today.
 
 
Tennessee
Flood Warning / Winter Storm Warning
Flood Warning in effect from this evening into the weekend. Winter Storm Warning Remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening.
  • Flood Warning: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Can expect water over roadways.
  • Winter Storm Warning: Significant icing. Total ice accumulations of up to one half inch. Due to ice, travel could be nearly impossible.
 
Ohio
Flood Warning / Winter Weather Advisory
Flood Warning in effect from this evening into the weekend. Rises on area rivers occurred as a result of recent rainfall paired with maximized runoff from frozen ground and snow melt. Winter Weather Advisory is effect from 6 PM this evening to 10 AM EST Friday.
  • Winter Weather Advisory: Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations up to 3 inches and ice accumulations up to one quarter of an inch. The hazardous road conditions could impact travel.
 
West Virginia
Winter Weather Advisory / Ice Storm Warning
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect into Friday. Icestorm Warning expiring 10 AM EST. Difficult travel conditions are possible.
  • Mixed precipitation expected
  • Ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch, with the highest amounts on the ridges
  • Minor sleet accumulations are also possible
 
Pennsylvania 
Winter Weather Advisory / Flood Warning / Ice Storm Warning
Winter Weather Advisory in effect form 10 PM this evening into Friday afternoon. Flood Warning still in effect until late weekend. Ice Storm Warning in effect from 5 PM this afternoon until Friday morning. Mixed precipitation will quickly become all freezing rain late this evening. The temperatures will start to warm above freezing around daybreak Friday
  • Winter Weather Advisory: Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations
    of 4 to 6 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze.
  • Ice Storm Warning: Significant icing expected. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of two tenths to four tenths of an inch.
Virginia 
Winter Weather Advisory
Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 10 PM this evening. Difficult travel conditions are possible.
  • Mixed precipitation expected
  • Ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch, with the highest amounts on the
    ridges
  • Minor sleet accumulations are also possible
 
New York 
Winter Storm Warning
Winter Storm Warning in effect from 10 PM this evening to Friday morning. Heavy snow expected. Difficult travel conditions are possible.
  • Winter Storm Warning: Total snow accumulations of 7 to 10 inches
  • Ice accumulations of a light glaze
  • Snowfall rates could exceed 1 inch per hour at times between 1 AM and 7 AM

Maryland
Winter Weather Advisory / Ice Storm Warning
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 7 PM this evening to Friday morning. Ice Storm Warning now in effect until 10 AM EST Friday. Significant icing expected from freezing rain. Plan on slippery road conditions. Light mixed precipitation will occur at times today, but a prolonged period of freezing rain will lead to greater impacts tonight into Friday morning. Strong winds will develop Friday morning
  • Mixed precipitation expected. Ice accumulations of up to one tenth to one third of an inch
  • Sleet accumulations less than one inch
New Jersey & Delaware
Winter Weather Advisory
Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 7 PM this evening to Friday morning. Areas of freezing rain are expected. Total ice accumulations of a few hundredths of an inch. Difficult travel conditions possible.
 
 
Additional Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the following: Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont New Hampshire.
  • In effect tonight into tomorrow night
  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches
  • Maximum snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hours are expected, mainly Friday morning.
  • Snow may mix with or briefly change to sleet Friday morning
 
Additional Wind Chill Warnings and Advisories for the following: Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, Northern South Dakota, and Northern Wisconsin.
  • Very cold wind chills occurring. Wind chills as low as 50 below zero
  • In effect until noon today

 

Dense Fog Advisories for the following: Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida - Panhandle, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog causing, hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility
