U.S. Weather Update 2.2.24

Summary:
Two strong systems will impact the Lower 48, one currently moving through the Intermountain West with strong winds and heavy precipitation. This system tracks across the South with a few severe thunderstorms and heavy rain. The next system arrives into California later this weekend with more heavy precipitation and strong winds. For the center of the nation, above normal temperatures and snowmelt. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-5, I-84, I-15, I-86, I-80, I-40, I-17, I-10, I-25, I-70


California
Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 AM PST this evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM PST Saturday morning

  • Sustained west winds 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects. Travel will be difficult, particularly for high profile vehicles, such as campers and tractor trailers. 

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 AM PST Saturday morning

  • Heavy snow at times. Additional snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches above 5000 feet with 18 to 24 inches above 7500 feet. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible from travel delays, snow covered roads, reduced visibility at times, chain controls and road closures.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 10 PM PST Sunday evening

  • Southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations 1 to 4 inches, mainly near and above 5000 feet west of US-395. 
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the commutes through Friday morning. 

Nebraska
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM MST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Additional Dense Fog Advisories include but are not limited to: Washington, Oregon, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi

Additional High Wind Warnings  include but are not limited to: Texas, and New Mexico

Additional Winter Storm Warnings  include but are not limited to: Nevada, Montana, Utah, Arizona, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico
