Weather Update 2.18.22 - U.S.

Summary: As a strong cold front moves through the eastern U.S. tonight, strong storms, gusty winds, and mixed wintry precipitation will be possible. Gusty winds will remain possible for areas along the east coast through Friday morning. Blizzard conditions are likely on Friday across the north-central CONUS as a clipper system brings strong winds and snow to the region.

 
North Dakota
High Wind Warning/Blizzard Warning
Widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning commute and possibly the evening commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage. 
  • Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch
  • Winds gusting as high as 65 mph.
  • Visibility of 1/4 mile or less with near zero visibility at times
  • The cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero
 
Minnesota 
Blizzard Warning
Blizzard warning remains in effect until 6 pm cst this evening. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning
commute and possibly the evening commute.
  • Winds gusting as high as 65 mph
  • Visibility of 1/4 mile or less with near zero visibility at times
  • Blizzard conditions possible; Total snow accumulations up to 2 inches possible; Wind gusts as high as 60 mph
  • The cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero
 
Iowa
Winter Weather Advisory/Wind Advisory
Winter weather advisory in effect from 2 pm this afternoon to 10 pm cst this evening. Strong gust winds and snow showers possible.Brief, but intense snow rates and very low visibilities may accompany any stronger snow showers and squalls.
  • Total snow accumulation less than an inch
  • Winds gusting from 35 to 50 mph
 
Wisconsin
Winter Weather Advisory/Wind Advisory
Advisories remain in effect until Midnight cst tonight. Snow and high winds expected.
  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches
  • West winds gusting as high as 45 mph
  • Blowing snow and
    rapid reduction in visibility in open areas are possible
 
Michigan
Winter Weather Advisory/Wind Advisory
Winter weather advisory in effect until Saturday morning. Deteriorating road conditions will become more widespread after 7 PM this evening. Briefly heavy snow showers, combined strong winds, will result in reduced visibilities tonight
  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches
  • Winds will gust as high as 50 mph in inland locations, and to 55 mph near the lakeshore
     
Indiana
Flood Warning
Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 am est this morning. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.
  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues
  • At 626 AM EST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain fell from Wednesday night through Thursday night 
 
Ohio
Flood Warning/Winter Weather Advisory
Flood Warning now in effect through this afternoon. Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 10 am est. Plan on slippery road conditions and poor visibility.
  • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast
  • Additional snow accumulations of around one inch
  • Northwest winds gusting as high as 25 mph
 
Pennsylvania
Winter Storm Warning/Wind Advisory/Flood Advisory
Advisories now in effect until 1 pm est. Plan on slippery road conditions and poor visibility. Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues
  • Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches
  • Northwest winds gusting as high as 30 mph, mainly near Lake Erie
  • Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas
 
New York
Winter Storm Warning/High Wind Warning/Flood Warning
Heavy snow and mixed precipitation expected. Snowfall will become lighter after 7 am, and taper off through late morning. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Travel will be difficult for high profile vehicles.
  • Where: Northern St. Lawrence, Northern Franklin and Southwestern St. Lawrence Counties in New York
  • Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches
  • Ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch
  • Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continue
  • Southwest winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph
    • Isolated gusts up to 65 mph
Vermont
Winter Weather Advisory
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 pm est. Mixed precipitation expected. Very difficult road conditions this morning due to freezing rain overnight followed by a flash freeze later this morning.
  • Total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches
  • Ice accumulations up to two tenths of an inch
     
Maine
Winter Storm Warning/High Wind Warning
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 am est. Heavy mixed precipitation and heavy wet snow expected. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility and cause
localized hazardous travel.
  • Total snow accumulations of 5 to 11 inches
  • Sleet accumulations of one half to three quarters of an inch
  • Ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch
  • Winds gusting as high as 35 mph
    • Wind gusts up to 60 mph
