U.S. Weather Update 2.16.24

Summary:
Heavy high elevation snowfall will continue in the Intermountain West through the weekend. A fast moving storm will produce a brief period of accumulating snow in the Northeast and widespread lake effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes. Accumulating snow is also possible from a portion of the Central Plains into the Mid-Atlantic. Heavy rains are possible in South Texas. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-205, I-5, I-84, I-80, I-86, I-15, I-25, I-70, I-29, I-35, I-435, I-44, I-72, I-55, I-74, I-39, I-57, I-65, I-81, I-88, I-91


Washington 
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 10 AM PST Saturday morning

  • East winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM PST Saturday afternoon

  • East winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected, mainly along and east of I-205.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 AM PST this morning

  • Heavy snow below 1000 feet. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Georgia
Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 PM EST Monday evening

  • Moderate flooding is occurring. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall. 
  • Impacts: Water over roadways. Some roadways may be closed due to inundation.  

New York
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EST this afternoon

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST this afternoon

  • Localized heavy snow and blowing snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EST this afternoon

  • Northwest winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Ohio
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM EST Saturday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute.
