Weather Update 2.15.22 - U.S.

Summary:  A potent storm system will continue to slice through the Western U.S. the next day or two with showers, mountain snow, gusty winds and cooler temperatures. On Wednesday through Friday morning, this system will evolve into a large scale, multi-hazard storm with heavy snow, a wintry mix, heavy rain with possible flooding and severe thunderstorms for the Central, Southern and Eastern U.S.

 
High winds could impact travel in the western U.S.  A fairly large region is under a wind advisory in southern Nevada, southeastern California, the southern Sierra Nevada, the San Joaquin and Sacramento valleys, as well as a large part of Arizona.  Drivers will be impacted by rollover possibilities and areas of blowing dust reducing visibilities.
 
Major lanes of concern:  
• Interstate 15 from Barstow, California, to Mesquite, Nevada.
• Interstate 40 from Barstow, California, to the Arizona-New Mexico border.
• Interstate 5 from Palm Springs, California, to just west of Phoenix.
• Interstate 8 from San Diego to just west of Phoenix.

Idaho
Winter Weather Advisory
Central Idaho is under a winter weather advisory from 10pm tonight until 10am on Tuesday.  Mixed precipitation is expected.  Precipitation will begin as rain and change to snow by Tuesday morning.
  • Total snow accumulations up to 2 inches; Locally higher amounts of 4-6 inches possible
 
Montana
Winter Weather Advisory
Central and southwestern Montana are under a winter weather advisory until 11am MST today.  Snow is expected.
  • 2-4 inches of snow accumulation
 
Wyoming
Winter Weather Advisory
Central Wyoming is under a winter weather advisory from 6pm tonight until 6pm MST on Wednesday.  Snow is expected.
  • 2-5 inches of snow accumulation
 
California
Wind Advisory
Southeastern, Central California to include the Sacramento Valley and Sierra Nevada area are under a wind advisory from 7am this morning until 7pm tonight.
  • Northwest winds 15 - 30 mph with gusts up to 40mph expected
  • Elevated risk of rollovers
 
Nevada
Wind Advisory
Southern Nevada is under a wind advisory until 4am PST on Wednesday.
  • Northwest winds 20 - 30 mph with gusts up to 50mph expected
  • Elevated risk of rollovers
 
Arizona
Wind Advisory
A wind advisory is in effect for most of Arizona from 8am this morning until 8pm MST tonight.
  • Southwest winds 20 - 30 mph with gusts up 40 - 55 mph expected
  • Elevated risk of rollovers
