Weather Update 12.29.21 - U.S.

Summary:  Snowfall remains the western U.S. More mountain snow is expected along with heavy coastal rain through Friday.
 
 
Washington
Winter Weather Advisory
Central Washington is expected to be impacted along with areas in southeast Washington.
  • Additional snow expected 
  • 3-9 inches of snow
 
Oregon
Winter Weather Advisory
Southwestern Oregon will be impacted by snow and slick conditions through this morning.
  • Additional snow expected with roads continuing to be slippery
  • 1-3 inches of snow
 
 
California
Winter Weather Advisory & Winter Storm Warning
Northwest California is under a winter weather advisory while eastern California is experiencing a winter storm warning.
  • In the Northeast Foothills/Sacramento Valley area additional snowfall is expected to remain steady with roads being closed or impassable.
  • In eastern California, heavy snow continues to fall.  An additional 2-4 inches is expected to fall on the feet of snow that has already accumulated.  Roads remain closed or impassable at this time.  
  • Impacts are to I-80 (open to only essential commercial trucks and vehicles), Highway 50 has re-opened but advisories state there are "serious delays"
 
Nevada
Winter Weather Advisory & Winter Storm Warning
Southern Nevada remains under a winter storm warning.  Heavy snow is expected to continue.  Higher elevations will be most impacted by the snowfall with lower valley areas still experiencing accumulations.
  • Total accumulations up to 8 inches in Nevada mountains
  • Impacts are to I-80 which has re-opened but travel delays remain; Travel will remain difficult across Highway 160, 156, and 157.
  • Snow accumulations in various areas could range from 12-24 inches.
 
Montana
Winter Weather Advisory
This is in place for western Montana however snowfall is also expected across west-central Montana
  • Mountain Passes:  3-6 inches
  • Valleys:  1-2 inches
  • West-central MT:  2-5 inches
 
Idaho
Winter Weather Advisory
This is in place for western Idaho.  Continued accumulations are expected.
  • 2-4 inches except up to 6 inches in mountainous areas
 
New Mexico
Winter Storm Warning
This is in place for areas in northwestern New Mexico surrounding the Death Valley National Park area.
  • Snow accumulations of up to 12 inches expected in mountainous areas.
  • Travel could be difficult especially along Highway 190
 
Utah
Winter Weather Advisory
This is in place for most of central Utah.  
  • 4-9 inches of snow expected
  • Travel is expected to be difficult with snow pack and reduced visibility from Wednesday evening through Friday evening
  • I-70 could see possible travel delays at times.
 
Colorado
Winter Weather Advisory
This is for areas in western Colorado.
  • 8-14 inches expected with localized higher amounts in mountainous regions
  • I-70 could see possible travel delays at times.
