In the contiguous states, a powerful cold front will bring widespread high winds, heavy snow and blowing snow to the Upper Midwest, and heavy lake effect snow. On Thursday, heavy rain and severe storm potential moves into the East. Active Advisories: California, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, Kentucky

Heavy snow across the Sierras possible beginning this Friday
  • 12-18inches above 5000ft,
    • 3+ feet over the peaks
  • 3-6 inches below 5000ft
  • From Friday morning through Saturday morning
Mountain travel is expected to become very difficult
 
North Dakota

Blizzard conditions expected today across eastern ND 
  • 3-5 inches of snow
  • 55mph wind gusts
