U.S. Weather Update 12.22.22

Summary:
An Arctic front will continue widespread, dangerous cold, with areas of blinding snow squalls and flash freezing over the central and eastern U.S. through the rest of this week. A strong winter storm will form on this front and bring blizzard conditions to the Plains, Upper Midwest, and Great Lakes. The eastern U.S. will see heavy rain, high winds, and coastal flooding ahead of the cold blast. Impacted Lanes: I-70, I-49, I-35, I-44, I-80, I-99


South Dakota
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 5 AM MST Friday Morning

  • Blizzard conditions. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Ohio
Winter Strom Warning remains in effect until 7 AM EST Saturday morning

  • Multi-hazard winter storm with a combination of strong winds, very cold temperatures, snow, and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 65 mph. Dangerously cold wind chills expected. Wind chills as low as 30 below zero.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commute. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 AM EST Saturday morning

  • Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM EST Saturday morning

  • Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Pennsylvania 
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM EST this afternoon

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions and some travel disruptions.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 AM EST Saturday morning

  • Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Delaware
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM EST Friday afternoon

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.

Additional High Wind Warnings include but are not limited to: Utah, New Mexico, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine

Additional Wind Advisories include but are not limited to: West Virginia, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maine

Additional Winter Weather Advisories include but are not limited to: Washington, Oregon, Idaho,  Minnesota, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Virginia and West Virginia

Additional Coastal Flood Advisories include but are not limited to: New Jersey
