U.S. Weather Update 11.7.22

Summary:
Widespread rain and heavy high elevation snow will continue across much of the Pacific Northwest into the Cascades and Sierras through Wednesday. Elsewhere, record warmth persists over the east into Monday. A subtropical or tropical depression may form over the southwestern Atlantic during the next few days. Impacted Lanes: Highway 50


California 
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 feet. Local amounts up to 5 feet. Winds gusting as high as 45 to 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible, especially above 4000 feet elevation. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility from blowing snow with whiteout conditions at times.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 AM PST Tuesday morning

  • South to southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Nevada
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening

  • South winds 20 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected. Highest winds are expected across mountains and summits.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles on west-to-east routes such as Highway 50. Blowing dust is possible, which may result in reduced visibilities.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST Tuesday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches in valleys, with 5 to 10 inches in the mountains. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. Blowing snow may result in reduced visibilities.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening

  • South winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. A few power outages are possible. Blowing dust is possible, which may result in reduced visibilities.

Louisiana 
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Fog will increase in coverage and density through daybreak before gradually dissipating around mid-morning.
  • Impacts: Reduced visibilities below one-quarter of a mile could lead to hazardous road conditions.
