U.S. Weather Update 11.28.23

Summary:
Heavy lake effect snow continues downwind of the Great Lakes resulting in difficult travel conditions. Meanwhile, colder air is sliding southward toward the Southeast portions of the country where freeze warnings are in effect. Air stagnation concerns linger for the interior Pacific Northwest. A low-pressure area developing near Hawaii may bring heavy rainfall and flooding through mid-week. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-80, I-77, I-71, I-271, I-79, I-86, I-81, I-25, I-84, I-5


Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 2 PM MST this afternoon

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected. Areas of blowing snow reducing visibility to under a mile for areas with recent snowpack.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers. Slick roads and reduced visibility possible for those areas with a fresh snowpack.

Ohio
Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 7 AM EST Wednesday morning

  • Heavy lake effect snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches, especially in the higher elevations away from Lake Erie. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact this morning`s commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening

  • Lake effect snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations of up to 4 inches in northern portions of the counties with lighter amounts farther south. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact this morning`s commute.

South Carolina
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EST this morning

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected along shorelines and tidal waterways
  • Impacts: This could result in some roads becoming impassable. 

Oregon
Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in freezing fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility and potential frost on bridges.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility less than one quarter of a mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM PST this evening

  • South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph for Ladd and Pyles Canyons.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
