U.S. Weather Update 11.19.24

Summary:
A powerful storm system will continue to bring heavy mountain snow, rain, and high winds to the Pacific Northwest and northern California through midweek. Heavy rain and flash flooding potential exists across the central Gulf Coast over the next few days, including the Florida Panhandle. A Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) of excessive rainfall is in effect Tuesday. Impacted Lanes: I-85, I-40, I-5, I-90, I-82, I-84, I-80, I-94, I-29, I-25, I-20, I-30, I-49, I-10, I-12, I-55, I-65, I-95


Louisiana
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CST this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CST this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 12:15 PM CST this afternoon

  • 1 to 3 inches have already fallen and even total amounts double that will be possible through the morning hours. Intense rainfall amounts may result in Flash flooding.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Water may be over roadways. 

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM CST this afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding of 1 to 2 feet above normally dry ground expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Washington 
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 10 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Blizzard conditions expected for elevations above 2500 feet. Total snow accumulations between 8 and 16 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult. Strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 12 inches. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Light snow will develop during the Tuesday evening commute and heavy snow will be possible by the Wednesday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches and result in blowing snow.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations at pass level up to 3 to 6 inches through Tuesday afternoon, then an additional 6 to 12 inches Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. Winds gusting as high as 55 mph Tuesday afternoon and overnight.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult at times. Strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 10 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • South to Southeast winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 4 PM PST Wednesday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Water may be over roadways.
