U.S. Weather Update 11.14.24

Summary:
Heavy coastal rain and high-elevation mountain snow over the Pacific Northwest and northern California will become lighter and more scattered into Thursday. A rapidly developing coastal storm is expected to bring a period of gusty winds, enhanced rainfall and thunderstorms from the Carolinas to the Mid-Atlantic states Thursday night into Friday. Impacted Lanes: I-40, I-5, I-90, I-80, I-15, I-94, I-29, I-95, I-26, I-86


Washington
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 PM PST this afternoon

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM PST this afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding possible. Inundation of around 2 feet above ground level is possible along shorelines and low- lying coastal areas.
  • Impacts: Minor coastal flooding due to tidal overflow is expected. This may lead to flooding of parking lots, parks, and roads, with only isolated road closures expected.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 2 PM PST this afternoon

  • Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Moderate flooding from heavy rain, with deep and quick flood waters will inundate some residential areas and many roads.

Tennessee
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11 AM EST this morning

  • South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. A few scattered power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM EST this morning

  • South winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Virginia
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 6 PM EST Friday evening

  • One to two feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Water will be 1 to 2 feet above ground level in some areas resulting in a sufficient depth to close numerous roads. Flooding will extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays resulting in some road closures and flooding of vehicles.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM EST Friday morning

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including some critical infrastructure may be inundated.

California
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PST Friday evening

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to 6 inches and up to 11 inches at the higher elevations.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST Friday morning

  • North winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM PST Monday afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

North Dakota
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
