U.S. Weather Update 11.10.22

Summary:
Nicole is expected to produce a variety of hazards across Florida into the Southeast through Thursday including, a dangerous storm surge, hurricane and tropical storm conditions, heavy rain with flooding and severe storms with tornadoes. Meanwhile, a powerful storm system will deliver a taste of winter to the Upper Midwest with snow, ice, blizzard conditions, high winds, rain and severe storms. Impacted Lanes: Highways 97, 139, 299, 395, 140, 395, I-75, I-95


Oregon 
Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility as low as a quarter of a mile and slick surfaces due to freezing fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility and slick road surfaces.

South Dakota
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 12 AM CST tonight 

  • Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations of 3 to 9 inches and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CST this morning

  • For the Ice Storm Warning, significant icing. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to one half of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST this evening

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations 2 to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • For the Winter Weather Advisory, mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Florida
Storm Surge & Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect until Friday evening

  • Wind: 45-60 mph with gusts to 80 mph
  • Impacts: High winds may damage property and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. High winds are unfolding now. 
  • Storm Surge: The potential for 3-5 feet above ground somewhere within surge prone areas
  • Impacts: Unfolding at the moment. Flooding from storm surge will cause some roadways to become impassable.
  • Flooding rain: Additional rain of around 1-3 inches is expected
  • Impacts: Flood waters can enter some structures or weaken foundations. Several places may experience expanded areas of rapid inundation at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage areas. Some streets and parking lots take on moving water as storm drains and retention ponds overflow. Driving conditions become hazardous. Some road and bridge
    closures.

Georgia 
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST Friday evening

  • Southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

 Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EST Friday evening

  • Northeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect until early Friday morning

  • Wind: 35-45 mph with gusts to 60 mph
  • Impacts: High winds may damage property and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. High winds are unfolding now. 
  • Flooding rain: Rain of around 1-3 inches is expected
