Hurricane Zeta is forecast to bring hazardous conditions to portions of the northern Gulf Coast by late Wednesday. Meanwhile, Winter Storm Billy is bringing snow, sleet, and freezing rain to the southern Rockies and the southern High Plains. Farther west, critical fire weather conditions are expected to persist over parts of California and the Southwest U.S. Active Advisories: New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida

A powerful storm system will continue to bring hazardous weather throughout the course of today

  • Up to 12 inches locally
  • 1/4 inch ice accumulation
  • Until 6 AM MDT Wednesday

Heavy mixed precipitation across northwest TX and the panhandle today
  • 3-5 inches of snow
  • 1/10th inch of ice

Ice Storm Warning
Significant icing expected today across the Rolling Plains and the southeast panhandle
  • 1-3 inches of snow
  • 1/10-3/10 inches of ice
  • Until 1 PM CDT Wednesday
Impacting transit along I-40, I-27, and I-20. Travel is strongly discouraged
 
Hurricane Zeta
 
Hurricane conditions and flooding are expected along portions of the northern Gulf Coast by late Wednesday. Between tonight and Thursday, heavy rainfall is expected from the central U.S. Gulf Coast into the southern Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic states near and in advance of Zeta . Zeta is the Atlantic's 11th hurricane of the season.
 
Hurricane Warning
74 mph or greater winds are expected to arrive later Wednesday.
  •  Morgan City, Louisiana, to the Mississippi/Alabama border
  • including Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas and metropolitan New Orleans
Storm Surge Warning
  • Intracoastal City, Louisiana, to Navarre, Florida, including Lake Borgne, Lake Pontchartrain, Vermilion Bay, Pensacola Bay and Mobile Bay
Tropical Storm Warning 
  • Mississippi/Alabama border to Okaloosa/Walton County line in Florida
Rainfall
A broad area of soaking rainfall will impact southern and eastern U.S.
  • 1-3 inches of rainfall from the South into the Ohio Valley
  • 2-4 inches of rainfall, up to 6, through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia
Wind
Tropical storm force winds will most likely arrive on the northern Gulf Coast sometime on Wednesday afternoon
  • Sustained winds over 40mph
  • Wind gusts farther inland through Alabama Georgia into Thursday
Storm Surge
Flooding could inundate parts of the northern Gulf near and east of where the center crosses the coast
  • 4-6 ft inundation
  • Port Fourchon, Louisiana, to Dauphin Island, Alabama, including Lake Borgne
Tornadoes
Tornadoes are possible Wednesday and Wednesday night
  • Southeast Louisiana into southern Mississippi
  • Southern Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle
