Weather Update 10.26.20 - U.S.

Heavy snow will continue to spread south along the Rockies through Monday. An area of freezing rain and sleet is forecast to develop over portions of the southern Plains to start the week. Meanwhile, dry and gusty conditions will continue critical fire weather conditions from California into southern New Mexico. Zeta is forecast to become a hurricane tracking north across the Gulf of Mexico. Active Advisories: Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas

Montana
Winter Weather Advisory
Blowing and drifting snow expected today along the Rocky Mountain Front and adjacent Plains
  • Winds gusting up to 55mph
  • Winds chills 20 to 30 degrees below zero
  • Until noon MDT Tuesday
  • Includes Great Falls and Helena
Will likely impact transit along I-15
 
Colorado 
Winter Storm Warning
An early season snow storm will continue to bring heavy snow and frigid temperatures to most of the state today
  • 4-8 inch accumulation
  • 40mph winds gusts
  • Below zero temperatures
  • Until 6 PM MDT Monday.
Icing on roadways will likely impact transit along I-70, I-76, and I-25
 
New Mexico 
Winter Storm Warning
A powerful snow storm will bring snow, winds, and frigid temperatures to northern and central NM today
  • 6-12 inch highland and mountain accumulation
  • 3-6 inch valley accumulation
  • 18 inch peak accumulation
  • 50mph wind gusts
  • Until 6 AM MDT Wednesday.
Will likely impact transit along I-25 and I-40
 
Nebraska
Winter Weather Advisory
Snow and bitterly cold temps across southern NB
  • 2 inches additional accumulation
  • Frigid temperatures well below zero
  • Until 7 AM CDT /6 AM MDT/ Monday
Impacting transit along I-80
 
Kansas
Winter Weather Advisory
Thunderstorms with heavy snow and sleet expected across the state today
  • 1-3 inches of snow
  • 1/10th inch of Ice
  • From 7 AM this morning to 1 AM CDT Tuesday.
Will likely impact transit along I-70
 
Oklahoma
Winter Storm Warning
Heavy mixed precipitation expected across the state today
  • 5-10 inches of panhandle snow
  • 1-4 inches of snow elsewhere
  • 1/10th inch of ice
  • Until 7PM CDT this evening.
Will likely impact travel along I-40, I-35, and I-44
 
Texas
Winter Storm Warning
Heavy mixed precipitation expected across northwest TX and the panhandle today
  • 1-6 inches of snow
  • 2/10th inches of ice
  • 35mph wind gusts
  • Unti1 PM CDT Wednesday
Will likely impact transit along I-40
 
Tropical Storm Zeta
  • Approaching the Northern Gulf Coast on Wednesday
  • Expected to be at or near hurricane strength
  • Will likely impact Louisiana through the Florida Panhandle
