Weather Update 10.25.21 - U.S.

Summary: A strong storm off the Pacific Northwest will continue directing a stream of heavy rain, high elevation snow and gusty to high winds over much of central and northern California, the Sierra Nevadas and the Great Basin Monday. Thunderstorms associated with isolated wind damage are possible over parts of the southern and central Appalachians into the Carolinas and Middle Atlantic region Monday. Additionally, while not expected to impact the U.S., Pacific Hurricane Rick will make landfall along the southern Mexico coast today, impacting the states of Guerrero and Michoacan.  Advisories: California, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado
 
California
Winter Storm Warning
Heavy snow occurring today across the wester slope Northern Sierra Nevada
  • 1-2 feet of additional snow
  • Until 11 PM today
Portions of I-80 are currently closed from Emigrant gap to Truckee due to winter weather conditions. US-50 is also closed through the mountains due to flooding.
 
Idaho
Winter Storm Warning
Heavy wet snow expected this morning across Central ID
  • 3 inches below 7000ft
  • 3-12 inches above 7000ft
  • 35mph wind gusts
  • Through noon MDT Monday
Utah
Winter Weather Advisory
Snow expected overnight tonight above 8000ft across northeast and southwest UT
  • 5-10 inches of snow
  • 55mph wind gusts
  • From 6 PM this evening to noon MDT Tuesday
Wyoming
Winter Weather Advisory
Heavy snow expected to begin this evening across west central WY
  • 4-8 inches across the Gros Ventre range
  • 6-12 inches across the Teton Mountains
  • From 6 PM this evening to noon MDT Tuesday
Colorado
Winter Weather Advisory
Moderate to heavy snow expected overnight across southwest CO
  • 4-8 inches of snow
  • 40-55mph wind gusts
  • From midnight tonight to midnight MDT Tuesday night
 
Additionally, Wind Advisories are in place across parts of Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, Texas, North Dakota, and Illinois
