Weather Update 10.22.20 - U.S.

Snow and ice will continue to impact portions of the Northern Rockies, Northern Plains, and Upper Midwest. Father south, heavy rainfall and a few severe thunderstorms are possible over the Middle Mississippi Valley. Another system will bring heavy precipitation to the Pacific Northwest Friday, while critical fire weather conditions prevail over California, the Southern Rockies, and High Plains. Active Advisories: Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan

Washington
Winter Storm Watch
Early season storm making heavy Cascade snow possible Friday
  • 5-12 inches possible
  • Heaviest impacts in the Cascades
Will impact transit along the I-90 corridor including Dobson and Snoqualmie passes.
 
Idaho
Winter Storm Watch
Heavy snow possible across the panhandle Friday evening into Saturday
  • 6-12 inches possible
  • Winds gusting up to 30mph
  • Wind chills as low as 20 below zero possible
Will impact transit along the I-90 corridor including Fourth of July and Lookout passes
 
Montana
Winter Storm Warning
Areas of heavy snow occurring today across portions of northern and southern MT
  • 7-13 inch accumulations
  • Winds gusting up to 35mph
  • Current conditions expected to lessen by afternoon today
Impacting transit along I-15 and I-90, including Lookout pass
 
Winter Storm Watch
Additional heavy snow possible across the state from Friday evening through Saturday
  • 4-13 inches additional snow
  • Wind chills as low as 20 below zero
After a period of relatively quiet conditions from Thursday afternoon through Friday morning, another storm is expected to impact the Northern Rockies from Friday night through Saturday afternoon.

Winter Storm Warning
Snow and blowing snow occurring today across north central WY
  • 12-18 inch accumulations
  • Until 6 PM MDT today
Impacting transit along I-90 from Gillette to the MT border
 
North Dakota
Winter Storm Warning
Heavy snow across southern ND continuing until this evening
  • 3-5 inches additional accumulation
  • Until 7 PM CDT /6 PM MDT/ this evening.
Impacting transit along I-94 and I-29
 
South Dakota
Winter Storm Warning
Heavy snow across much of the state continuing until this evening
  • 4-6 inches additional accumulation
  • Until 7 PM CDT /6 PM MDT/ this evening.
Impacting transit along I-29
 
Minnesota
Winter Storm Warning
Heavy snow expected across central MN over the course of today
  • 4-7 inch accumulations
  • Until 10 PM CDT this evening
Impacting transit along I-94
 
Wisconsin
Winter Storm Warning
The next round of accumulating snow expected today across northern WI
  • 5-8 inch accumulations
  • Until 1 AM CDT Friday.
Michigan
Winter Weather Advisory
Snow expected across the U.P. beginning this afternoon
  • 3-7 inches possible
  • Little accumulation along immediate lakeshore
  • From noon EDT /11 AM CDT/ today to 8 AM EDT /7 AM CDT/ Friday.
 
Additionally, dangerous surf and rip current conditions associated with Hurricane Epsilon are expected along the U.S. east coast over the next several days
