U.S. Weather Update 1.4.23

Summary:
Periods of rain and a few severe thunderstorms will move across the southeast and eastern seaboard through Wednesday. For areas of the Great Lakes and interior New England, snow and ice will accumulate and affect travel. Another Pacific storm approaches with heavy rain, potential for flash flooding, heavy snow for the mountains and strong winds through Thursday. Impacted Lanes: I-20, I-85, I-75, I-16, I-40, I-77, I-71, I-5, I-80, I-90, I-94, I-35, I-29,


Minnesota
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

California
Winter Strom Warning remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of up to 4 inches above 3500 feet with 2 to 3 feet over the peaks. Winds gusting as high as 70 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Strong winds could cause extensive tree damage.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 4 PM PST Thursday afternoon

  • Southeast winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts of 60 to 70 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flood Warning remains in effect until early Friday morning

  • Minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: At 18.0 feet, Flooding of Highway 222 near Ukiah. Secondary roads in low-lying areas will be flooded in the Hopland, Ukiah, and Talmage areas.

Flash Flood Advisory remains in effect until Thursday morning

  • Flash flooding and debris flows caused by excessive rainfall continue to be possible.
  • Impacts: Heavy rainfall could trigger flash flooding of low-lying areas, urbanized street flooding, and debris flows. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST Thursday morning

  • Southeast to south winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. Wind prone areas may see gusts as high as 65 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be dangerous for high profile vehicles.

Georgia
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 1:45 PM EST this afternoon

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Minor flooding is occurring.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from rainfall.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM EST this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. Overflowing poor drainage areas. River or stream flows are elevated. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring.

North Dakota
Dense Fog Advisory  remains in effect until 12 PM CST this afternoon

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility will make driving conditions hazardous.

Additional Flood Warnings include but are not limited to: Ohio and Kentucky

Additional Flash Flood Warnings include but are not limited to: Mississippi and Alabama

Additional Flood Advisories include but are not limited to: Alabama, Kentucky and Ohio

Additional Dense Fog Advisories include but are not limited to: Montana, South Dakota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey
