Weather Update 1.25.21 - U.S.

A storm gathering strength over Texas today will shift to the Mid-Atlantic through Tuesday night. Areas of freezing rain and heavy snow will spread from the central Plains east into the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England. Further south, areas of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are possible from the southern Plains into the Ohio Valley. A Pacific storm will move into the Southwest Monday. Active Advisories: Southwest and Central to Eastern US.

Oregon
Winter Weather Advisory
  • Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches this morning
  • Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches over the mountains possible
  • Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.
  • Greater snowfall expected in higher elevation
 
California
Flood Advisory
  • Remains in effect until 6 AM PST 
  • Where: Northeastern Orange County
  • Locations experiencing flooding include: White Canyon, Wildcat Canyon and Little Silverado Creek
  • Minor flooding is likely ongoing in the advisory area
  • Between 0.3 and 0.6 inches of rain have fallen
Winter Weather Advisory 
  • Accumulations of up to two inches
  • A prolonged period of heavy snow expected
  • Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet, 3 to 6 feet above 7000 feet
  • Winds gusting up to 40 mph in lower elevations  
  • 80 mph winds over ridges leading to whiteout conditions.
Wind Advisory
  • Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph 
  • Gusts up to 45 mph
  • South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph possible
  • Where: Southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur Coast
  • In effect until 10 AM PST
 
Nevada
Winter Storm Warning
  • Southern Nevada
  • Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet, except 3 to 6 feet above 7000 feet
  • Winds gusting up to 40 mph in lower elevations
  • Winds up to 80 mph over ridges leading to whiteout conditions
 
Arizona 
Winter Storm Warning
  • In effect until 11 AM MST Tuesday
  • Heavy snow above 4000 feet
  • Additional snow accumulations of 3 to 23 inches
  • Winds gusting as high as 40 mph
Wind Advisory
  • In effect from 10 AM to 4 PM MST this afternoon 
  • South winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph expected
  • The strongest winds are likely along and ahead of a line of showers and thunderstorms
  • Difficult driving conditions, especially for larger vehicles traveling along roads with crosswinds
 
Utah
Winter Storm Warning
  • In effect until 11 AM MST
  • Heavy snow expected 
  • Total snow accumulation 1 to 3 inches below 3500 feet
  • Generally 5 to 10 inches, locally higher above 3500 feet
  • Snow accumulations totals up to 3 feet possible in the Pine Valley Mountains. 
 
Texas and Oklahoma
Fog Advisory
  • In effect until 10 AM CST 
  • Visibility less than one mile in dense fog
  • Where: The combined Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles
 
KS, NE, IA, MS, IL
Winter Storm Warning
  • Heavy snow expected
  • Total snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches in some areas
  • Northeast winds will average 15 to 25 MPH with gusts as high as 30 to 35 MPH
  • Blowing and drifting snow can cause near-blizzard conditions at times
 
WI, MI, IN, OH, NY, VA, MD
Winter Weather Advisory
  • Mixed precipitation expected
  • Total snow accumulations of up to one inch
  • Ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths of an inch
  • Slippery road conditions to be expected
 
NE West Virginia and SW Pennsylvania

  • Mixed precipitation expected
  • Total snow accumulations of up to one inch
  • Ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths of an inch

  • Total snow accumulations of up to 3 inches
