U.S. Weather Update 1.24.23

Summary:
A strengthening storm will spread heavy snow from parts of the South Plains to the Great Lakes. Severe storms with damaging winds and several tornadoes, including potential for strong tornadoes, will be possible along parts of the west and central Gulf Coast. Areas of heavy snow and blowing snow, and bitter wind chills in place across interior and western Alaska. Impacted Lanes: I-27, I-40, I-10, I-20, I-35, I-44, I-70, I-94, I-81, I-87 


Ohio 
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 PM EST Wednesday evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM EST Wednesday afternoon

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 3 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Snow will overspread the area Wednesday morning before transitioning to a wintry mix and then rain by Wednesday afternoon. The heaviest snow is expected Wednesday morning when snow rates of up to 1 inch per hour may be possible.

Texas
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 PM CST this evening

  • Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations of around 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM CST this evening

  • Snow. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Travel may be difficult. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Louisiana 
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 PM CST this evening

  • South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 PM CST this evening

  • Significant coastal flooding expected, with water levels between 3 and 4 feet above normal tides, or 2 to 3 feet mean higher high water.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated. Some shoreline erosion will occur.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM CST Wednesday morning 

  • Minor coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM CST Wednesday morning 

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Nebraska

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CST this morning

  • Visibility of one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility, along with possible slick spots due to fog freezing onto roadways and bridges.

Additional Dense Fog Advisories include but are not limited to: Washington, Oregon, California, South Dakota, Iowa and Kansas

Additional Wind Advisories include but are not limited to: Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky 

Additional Coastal Flood Advisories include but are not limited to: Alabama

Additional High Wind Warnings include but are not limited to: Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida

Additional Winter Weather Advisories include but are not limited to: New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Montana, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York and New Jersey 

Additional Winter Storm Warnings include but are not limited to: New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana
