U.S. Weather Update 1.19.23

Summary:
Heavy snow from a winter storm will stretch from the Upper Midwest to the Great Lakes and Northeast. A wintry mix will impact areas from the Great Lakes to the Northeast. Severe storms may develop in the Ohio Valley. A storm in the Southwest will bring lower elevation showers and heavy mountain snow, including in California mountains where additional snow will add to an enormous snowpack. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-86, I-81, I-88, I-80, I-76, I-68, I-75, I-41, I-94, I-35, I-29, I-70, I-84


New York
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM EST Friday morning

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of an inch or less and ice accumulations of around three tenths of an inch.
  • Impacts: Power outages and tree damage are possible due to the ice. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Pennsylvania 
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EST this afternoon

  • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of a light glaze.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM EST Friday afternoon

  • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. The highest gusts will be on the ridge tops.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Wisconsin
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Heavy snow. Total snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches expected.
  • Impacts: Moderate to heavy snow will likely be ongoing during the morning commute and result in very hazardous conditions.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM CST this afternoon

  • Snow. Total snow accumulation of 4 to 6 inches expected.
  • Impacts: Heavy snow in the pre-dawn hours will result in hazardous conditions for the morning commute.

North Dakota
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM MST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. The fog may deposit a thin layer of ice on untreated surfaces.

Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11 AM MST this morning

  • West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight and high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.
