U.S. Weather Update 1.11.23

Summary:
The endless stream of atmospheric river events will re-focus on Wednesday across northern California. Once again, heavy to excessive rain on already saturated ground may produce more flooding. Also, snow will remain in the forecast for the northern California mountains and parts of the Sierra. Meanwhile, strong to severe storms are possible the next couple of days in the South and Mid South. Impacted Lanes: I-10, I-280, I-5, I-80, I-90, I-84, I-86, I-15, I-25, I-76, I-70, I-29, I-35 


California
Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: At 17.0 feet, Significant flooding of Highway 175 at the approaches to the Russian River bridge. Minor flooding of Highway 222 near Ukiah, and in crop land along the left and right banks of the Russian River near Hopland. Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 AM PST Thursday morning

  • Snow. Additional snowfall accumulation of 4 to 8 inches above 6000 feet with local accumulations up to a foot over the higher peaks. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM PST Thursday afternoon

  • Southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Travel may be very difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Flood Watch remains in effect until Thursday morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.

Colorado
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MST this evening

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Winds will begin early this morning along the I-25 corridor, spreading across the plains this afternoon.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. There could be areas of blowing dust, occasionally reducing visibilities.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening

  • Snow expected. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 65 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility and impact travel over Monarch Pass.

Utah
Winter Strom Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to 5 inches.
  • Impacts: Periods of snow will result in winter driving conditions. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches.
  • Impacts: Periods of snow will result in travel difficulties. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

North Dakota
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MST this morning

  • Visibility a quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility will make driving conditions hazardous.
