SummaryA quiet day in January for weather compared to what we have been seeing.  Areas are under a cold front causing very cold temperatures.  Other areas are looking at the possibility of freezing rain.  Please see below for the highlights.
 
Highlights:
  • Slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Lower Mississippi Valley through Thursday morning.
  • Light snow from parts of the Middle Mississippi,  Southern Ohio Valleys, and the Mid-Atlantic; light to moderate snow over parts of the Northeast on Wednesday.
  • Risk of rain/freezing rain over parts of the Southern Ohio/Tennessee Valleys and Middle/Lower Mississippi Valley on Wednesday.

 
Montana
Winter Weather Advisory / Wind Chill Advisory
This is in effect until 11amMST this morning for Central Montana.
  • Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch.
  • Wind chills as low as -40
 
Colorado
Winter Weather Advisory
This is in effect until 8pmMST tonight for northeastern Colorado mainly around the I-25 corridor.
  • Freezing drizzle and light snow expected.
 
North Dakota
Wind Chill Warning / Wind Chill Advisory
This is in place until noon on Thursday.
  • Wind chills as low as -45
 
South Dakota
Wind Chill Advisory
Northern and Northeastern South Dakota are under a wind chill advisory until 11am on Thursday.
  • Wind chills as low as -35
 
Minnesota
Wind Chill Advisory
This is in place for the entire state until noon on Thursday.
  • Wind chills as low as -35
 
Iowa
Wind Chill Advisory
This is in place for the entire state until noon on Thursday. 
  • Wind chills as low as -20 to -30
 
Missouri
Wind Chill Advisory
Northern Missouri is under a wind chill advisory starting tonight at 9pm until noon on Thursday.
  • Wind chills as low as -20
 
Wisconsin
Wind Chill Advisory
A wind chill advisory for most of Wisconsin starts tonight at 10pm and runs through noon on Thursday.
  • Wind chills as low as -20 to -30
 
Illinois
Wind Chill Advisory
This in place for northwestern Illinois from 9pm this evening until noon on Thursday.
  • Wind chills as low as -20
 
Arkansas
Winter Weather Advisory / Wind Chill Advisory
Northwestern Arkansas is under a winter weather advisory from 3pm this afternoon until 6pmCST tonight.  There is also a wind chill advisory in place from 6am on Thursday until 10amCST Thursday.
  • Freezing rain, sleet and snow is expected.  Total sleet and snow accumulations of less than one inch are possible with a glaze of ice.  
  • Wind chills 0 to -5
 
Kentucky
Winter Weather Advisory
A winter weather advisory is in place for the entire state of Kentucky from 7pm tonight until 8am Thursday.  Snow is expected.
  • 1-2 inches snow accumulation
  • Light glaze of ice
 
Indiana
Winter Weather Advisory
The southernmost portion of Indiana is under a winter weather advisory from 7pm tonight until 8am Thursday.  Snow is expected.
  • 1-2 inches snow accumulation
  • Light glaze of ice
 
Ohio
Winter Weather Advisory
The southern portion of Ohio is under a winter weather advisory from 7pm tonight until 7am on Thursday.  
  • 1-3 inches snow accumulation
 
West Virginia 
Winter Weather Advisory
Southern and Western West Virginia are under a winter weather advisory from 7pm tonight until 7am on Thursday.
  • 1-2 inches snow accumulation
 
Michigan
Winter Weather Advisory
This is in place for all areas bordering on the lake form 1pm this afternoon until 4pm on Thursday.  Lake effect snow is expected.
  • Up to 6 inches with locally higher amounts
 
South Carolina
Winter Storm Watch
A winter storm watch is in effect for Northeast South Carolina from late Thursday night until Saturday morning.  Freezing rain will be the primary wintry precipitation occurring throughout the watch period.  Widespread significant ice accumulations are possible with early estimates at 0.20 to 0.40, except around one tenth of an inch along the coast.
 
North Carolina
Winter Storm Watch
A winter storm watch is in effect for Central and Eastern North Carolina from Thursday evening until Saturday morning.  Snow is expected.  Total snow accumulations of 2-5 inches possible, ice accumulations of a light glaze.
