Walmart Rolls Out Drone Delivery, Pushing Faster Supply Chains

Walmart is expanding drone delivery to six stores across metro Atlanta, with plans to roll out the service to Houston, Charlotte, Orlando and Tampa next year. Working with technology partner Wing, the retailer is moving drone delivery from pilot phase to everyday use, giving customers faster access to groceries and household essentials. In Dallas-Fort Worth, drones now deliver thousands of orders weekly and reach nearly 75% of the metro population.

Europe Faces Potential Port Congestion as Red Sea Shipping Resumes

European ports could face major disruptions in 2026 if container ships return to the Red Sea and Suez Canal after nearly two years of rerouting around Africa. Because Europe’s terminals are already near capacity, a sudden wave of ships regaining 12–18 days of transit could cause vessels to arrive all at once, overwhelming yards, slowing unloading and backing up cargo inland. At the same time, ships stuck in Europe during congestion would take longer to return to Asia, creating temporary equipment shortages and tighter capacity in key export markets.

“As global trade patterns continue to realign, shippers should evaluate alternative transportation modes and prepare for tighter capacity, shifting schedules and increased pressure on European terminals,” said Justin McInturff, International Logistics Manager at Jarrett.

Rising Cargo Theft Threatens U.S. Truck Fleet Operations

Nearly 40% of U.S. truck fleet operators say they are more concerned about cargo theft now than a year ago as incidents increase and organized theft rings grow more sophisticated. A recent Geotab survey of 575 fleet operators found that more than a third experienced a theft in the past 12 months, while Overhaul reported a 29% year-over-year increase in U.S. truck cargo thefts in the third quarter of 2025.

The impact is also reaching consumers. According to Geotab, more than half of Americans surveyed said they experienced missing or “lost” deliveries in the past year, and 37% said theft ultimately leads to higher prices.

“Cargo theft has a direct impact on supply chain performance, consumer costs and overall economic stability,” said Todd Shields, Senior Director, Brokerage Operations at Jarrett. “Strengthening security measures and improving visibility at every stage of the supply chain is key in mitigating these rising risks.”

Increase in Blank Sailings Adds Pressure to Global Supply Chains

Ocean carriers are increasingly canceling scheduled voyages, known as blank sailings, as they try to rebalance capacity and navigate congestion, weather issues and geopolitical disruptions. These cancellations leave containers sitting at ports, delay vessel rotations and can extend transit times by several weeks. The ripple effects reach inland operations as well, creating higher storage fees, tighter inventory windows and added uncertainty for shippers trying to plan around delivery schedules.

“As carriers continue to adjust capacity, shippers should expect more volatility in 2026,” said Aaron Nussbaum, Vice President of Logistics Operations. “Building flexibility into lead times and monitoring carrier advisories will be critical to staying ahead.”
