EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT _carly-1

We are celebrating our 20th anniversary by highlighting our 20 most tenured employees!

Next up is Carly Raff, Lead Logistics Coordinator here at Jarrett. Read her answers below to find out more about Carly and her experience at Jarrett throughout the years!

Describe your job in 20 words or less?

Jarrett provides excellent customer care. We are constantly going above and beyond to service the needs of our customer.

Favorite memory at Jarrett so far

When Mark Gordon decided to not tell Ethan that he was moving teams and then proceed to leave for a week. Ethan found out through the grapevine. Ethan then took Mark’s coffee mug and put it in Jell-o for when Mark got back. Mark’s reaction was priceless cause Mark loves his coffee. This might be one of my favorites.

What is your favorite quote?

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Gandhi

What is your biggest goal right now?

To train and grow my team. I want to have each person on my team to be given the opportunity to grow. My goal is to make sure everyone on my team is in a position to grow and learn new things every day.

Why did you decide to join and stay with Jarrett?

I was graduating college and was working at Buehler’s as a server. I met the HR manager at the time and she pushed me to apply. After interviewing, I knew this is where I was meant to be. The company values lined up with my personal ones and the people are great. I also love the fact that no day is ever the same in logistics.

Which employee perk does Jarrett offer that you enjoy the most? Why?

The wellness program. Jarrett promotes a healthy lifestyle by rewarding you with making good choices and being more active. There are goals that we can reach and get rewarded for just for making simple healthy decisions. If you participate in a walk or run, you get rewarded for that. The money can go toward a gym membership or other things that promote a healthy lifestyle.

Who has been a mentor for you here at Jarrett? How have they helped you?

I don’t know if I would be able to say just one. There are so many people that have formed me to be the employee that I am today. I have made a few team changes in the time I have been at Jarrett but that has helped me learn more about myself and my growth along the way. I wouldn’t have been able to grow without the mentors I have had to guide me along the way.

What advice would you give to recent new hires?

Ask questions. You never can ask too many. Logistics changes every day and it’s hard to keep up with sometimes. The people at Jarrett are always wanting to teach and learn so if you don’t know something, ask.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your time at Jarrett?

Hard work pays off. When you come to work and go above and beyond for your customer, your hard work does not go unnoticed. The people you work with see your dedication and you are rewarded for that hard work.

How have you seen the organization and/or industry change over the course of time that you’ve been at Jarrett?

There have been new teams created to balance the needs of the growing business.

How does your team provide value to Jarrett clients?

I don’t know if I have enough room in to put all the value that Jarrett provides to our clients. Jarrett provides different types of reporting, claims filing and prevention, tracking, returns, dispatching, auditing, and much more. There are things that the Jarrett team does that doesn’t compare to some of our competitors.

How has technology evolved in your time at Jarrett?

Our IT platform is different from everyone else’s in our industry. We have a fabulous IT department that puts in a lot of hours trying to make our system better and more efficient. In the workplace now, everything revolves around computers and our system has the ability to provide information that some companies don’t. It sets us apart from many other logistics providers.

How does Jarrett and their employees serve the community?

Jarrett is very community service driven. There are so many options that we have to give back to the community whether it be through service or through monetary gifts. You can volunteer at the Salvation Army helping with different tasks or donate $3.00 to wear jeans on a specific Friday of the month. Jarrett is always looking to give back in some way or another.

How would you define Jarrett’s success?

Jarrett’s success is based on a lot of determination and hard work. We as employees work hard day in and day out to provide for our customers. Our customer service is what makes us successful.

How has the client experience changed?

When I started, I was an assistant logistics coordinator. I went from dispatching and having very little communication with customers to now leading customer meetings. It’s amazing what a little bit of time and experience can do.

What do you envision Jarrett looking like in the next 20 years?

We are growing so fast that I really don’t know what the future holds. It has changed so much in the time I have been here but all for the good. I hope the growth continues year after year and we reach all our goals.

What lessons have you learned in the past 20 years that will impact the next 20?

Communication is key. No matter what form of communication we use, it can change perception and the relationship you have with someone. Always keep that line of communication open.

What advice would you give your 20-year-old self?

Have fun. You have your whole life to work, make sure you have fun while you are doing it.

What was your favorite song when you were 20?

Probably any country song that was popular at the time.

What job did you have when you were 20?

I was a receptionist at a salon during college. I have a communications degree and didn’t know what I really wanted to do at 20. Never in a million years would I have thought that I was going to be working in logistics. I wouldn’t look back!
